Michelin Launches The Pilot Sport EV Range

Released on the 1st of April 2021, the Michelin Pilot Sport EV Range is the first Michelin tyre that has been expertly engineered to meet the specific handling and range requirements of electric sports vehicles.

The summer road tyre has been developed for electric vehicles from high performance hatchbacks, saloons, to SUVs and 4x4s. Being a founding partner of Formula E, Michelin proposed an effective solution for their championship electric sports cars but with similarities to the concept of a road tyre. Produced to effectively race in any weather conditions, the Pilot Sport still fits in with the current road-car norms thanks to its original tyre size of 18 inches.

The Pilot Sport EV Range Technology

Over the last 6 years of Formula E seasons, Michelin’s newest tyres have benefited from all the experience and progress collected over time. The Pilot Sport EV range is no exception. Incorporating the ElectricGrip CompoundTM technology, the Pilot Sport EV range features a hard compound at the centre of the tread to ensure the vehicle has the required grip needed to cope with the characteristics of an electric sports car.

The sidewalls of the Pilot Sport EV range are designed with the same tread pattern and markings of Michelins Formula E tyre. This allows electric sports road-cars to have the same performance level as the Michelin Formula E tyres used every season.

Features and benefits

  • MICHELIN high-performance summer road tyre for electric vehicles
  • Confident handling, even at high speed

An eco-responsible CO2 neutral tyre

Since Michelin pledged to be completely carbon neutral and reduce all CO2 emissions caused by the production and transport to its point of sale by 2050, the Pilot Sport EV range tyres not only meets the demands of an electric sports car. The tyre also achieves carbon neutrality throughout the course of its life. This process is done through the financing of projects aimed at offsetting and absorbing the CO2 emissions, such as the Livelihoods carbon fund. This process will be used right up until Michelin can eliminate CO2 emissions from their production entirely.

Michelin is currently the only manufacturer on the market that provides original equipment and replacement electric sports car tyres. Launching on April 1st, Michelin will roll out the tyres in a range of sizes throughout 2021, ranging from 18-22 inch rims. Available in a  total of 16 sizes.
