With the way the world is headed in response to the various environmental pressures we are faced with today, it comes as no surprise that the call for more sustainability extends to the tyre industry, too. With the brand new UltraContact, Continental have developed a summer tyre with increased mileage and efficient design as its core principles. Aimed at both fleets as well as younger end consumers, due to the goals Continental set out to achieve with the tyre, the process of designing and manufacturing were both resource-saving and cost efficient.
Additionally, the UltraContact has also been designed to evolve with the EV market. In 2019 alone there were 2.1 million electric vehicles sold and this number only promises to keep on rising. According to statista.com, “It is expected that there will be 115 million vehicles in the global electric vehicle fleet by 2030.” This means that developing a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly tyre has never been more important. With EVs becoming more and more prominent, this is exactly the type of tyre which will be required to meet the demands of modern motorists.

Furthermore, noise emission is much more noticeable from an EV due to their engines being much quieter than cars with combustion engines. Because of this, to prepare for the influx of more and more electric vehicles, Continental have ensured that the tyre ranks excellently for noise emission on its EU tyre label. It is classified as either an “A” or a “B” depending on the size of the tyre. It is classified as “A” for wet braking performance and grade “B” for rolling resistance. With this lowered level of noise emission, as well as excellent wet braking and enhanced rolling resistance, the Continental UltraContact is not a tyre to be overlooked.
