Electric & Hybrid Tyres

Choosing Electric vehicle tyres or hybrid tyres will significantly improve the performance and efficiency of your electric vehicle (EV) or hybrid vehicle (HEV). To get the most out of your EV or HEV, you should choose a tyre with low rolling resistance and low noise levels which can cope with the extra power from electric and hybrid car batteries.

About hybrid and electric tyres

Ensuring your electric or hybrid vehicle is fitted with suitable tyres plays a crucial role in maintaining its performance, safety and overall driving experience. When driven with care, hybrid or electric car tyres can extend your car’s mileage, improve safety, reduce running & maintenance costs and increase fuel & energy efficiency. You can find electric tyres and hybrid tyres from popular brands including Bridgestone, Continental, Michelin and more, right here at Asda Tyres.

Tyres optimised for hybrid and electric vehicles

Designed for Electric

With the more powerful engines of electric hybrid cars, many of the top tyre manufacturers understand that EV and HEV vehicles require specially designed tyres. Choosing hybrid or EV tyres from a premium manufacturer such as Bridgestone, Michelin or Pirelli is recommended. These tyres are not only safer but guarantee the best performance. Many of these manufacturers work with the vehicle manufacturers to have these fitted as Original Equipment.

Identifying Electric Tyres

There is currently no set standard for identifying hybrid or electric car tyres. Some manufacturers like Continental use E or EV to differentiate between the tyres. Other manufacturers have eco-friendly tyre ranges such as the Bridgestone Ecopia range or the Pirelli Cinturato range.

Low Rolling Resistance

Rolling resistance is the amount of friction between the tyre and the road. Many hybrid electric cars work best alongside tyres with low rolling resistance as they help save energy, increase fuel efficiency and allow you to get the most out of your battery, without compromising on grip and safety. For a great premium option, take a look at the Bridgestone Turanza T005.

Safety and Performance

The extra weight of electric hybrid car batteries means that more power is required to start moving the car which often results in longer braking distances. Selecting high-performance hybrid tyres that respond well to the extra power is essential not only to the longevity and performance of your EV or HEV but also to keep you and others safe on the road. Asda Tyres recommends the Michelin Pilot Sport 4.

Noise Levels

As electric cars have extremely quiet engines, the most noise generated by EV and HEVs is from the tyres making contact with the road. The faster you drive, the louder this rolling noise will be. Electric car tyres are designed to produce less noise at high speeds, keeping the overall rolling noise at a minimum. Take a look at the Goodyear Wrangler HP for a quieter and smoother drive.
