GT Radial SportActive 2 Scores Big in Evo Tyre Test

After being tested in the evo 2021 tyre performance test, the GT Radial SportActive 2 has passed with flying colours. It was tested alongside a number of other tyres in 11 different driving measurements in which it came first in curved aquaplaning and joint first in straight line aquaplaning.

As well as testing aquaplaning performance, evo also tested the tyres in both objective as well as subjective areas. One such example was looking at the rolling resistance and therefore the handling and responsiveness of each tyre on a fixed route. The wet and dry tests also then comprised a lap time which was evaluated objectively and subjectively by the driver.

The GT Radial SportActive 2 finished sixth out of a roster of nine different tyres from other well-established and mostly premium manufacturers. This is a huge win considering the fact that it was up against brands such as Michelin, Pirelli, Goodyear and Bridgestone who are all known to produce well-performing tyres.

Evo concluded that ‘The SportActive 2 excelled in the aquaplaning tests and performed well on the wet circuit too. It was less dynamic on the dry track but was liked on the road route for its decent steering connection and ride. A good tyre.’

Each tyre was a size of 225/40/ZR18 92Y XL – the UK’s best-selling ultra-high performance tyre size – while the tests were completed in an Audi S3 with a Haldex-style four-wheel-drive system.

When compared to the previous model in its series, the SportActive 2 improved upon wet braking by 15% and saw a 10% increase in wet handling and also aquaplaning resistance. This is a huge win and shows that GT Radial have continued to push the boundaries and optimise their tyres.

Speaking of the tyre test, Fabio Pecci-Boriani – Senior Product Manager PCR, SUV, Light Truck for Giti Tire (Europe) – stated, “The fact that our new GT Radial SportActive 2 was quoted as being ‘a good tyre’, and has beaten established premium brands in certain tests, is something that makes us all proud.”

“Evo magazine selected and purchased the best UHP products in the market and pushed them to their limits, so to be awarded first in curved aquaplaning and second in straight line aquaplaning is simply fantastic.”

“It is yet another independent test that confirms the established quality of our new GT Radial products and it motivates us even more to continue developing further our product range which will benefit from more new products and additional range extensions in 2022.”

Since its launch at the start of 2021, the GT Radial SportActive 2 has also seen a 5% boost in mileage which is dependent on various driving characteristics, as well as reduced noise emissions with a noise rating of just 69dB.
