Bridgestone Unveils E8 Commitment Towards 2030

Bridgestone Announces E8 Commitment Towards 2030

Bridgestone has officially announced its global launch of their E8 commitment. The Bridgestone E8 Commitment is the manifestation of its corporate commitment towards the aim of helping society move towards sustainability by 2030.

The E8 Commitment adds upon the company’s vision which is to provide sustainable solutions and help navigate the industry into a more efficient and environmentally-friendly direction. The commitment highlights Bridgestone’s wish to not exclusively drive business growth, but to do so in a responsible manner and in the most sustainable ways possible.

Furthermore, Bridgestone’s E8 Commitment is also part of a larger plan as the company evolves into Bridgestone 3.0, the process in which Bridgestone hopes to become a leader in sustainable mobility and technologies.

The E8 Values

E8 is comprised of eight commitments – Energy, Ecology, Efficiency, Extension, Economy, Emotion Ease and Empowerment. These eight aspects will allow Bridgestone to navigate business priorities and operations while ensuring that sustainability stays number one at all times.

With Energy and Ecology, Bridgestone has defined its clear environmental targets which are to achieve full carbon neutrality and to work with only 100% sustainable materials while operating in better balance with nature by 2050.

Emotion and Empowerment both draw on an important distinction: that true sustainability is about people as well as the planet. They include Bridgestone’s own people first and foremost as well as their safety and wellbeing while also including human rights, inclusion and diversity as well as the business’ continued commitment to a safer society and healthier conditions.

Furthermore, relating to Bridgestone’s commitment to creation and collaboration with partners, we have Extension, Ease and Efficiency which also relate to Bridgestone’s vision of mobility and how it will evolve in years to come.

Last but not least, there is the Economy commitment. With this, Bridgestone acknowledges the importance of optimizing growth as well as economic value from the business.

President and CEO of Bridgestone EMIA Laurent Dartoux stated “We are living in unsettling and troubled times – both with the war in Ukraine and its tragic consequences for so many people, as well as the climate emergency and the impact that it is having on our planet and the lives and livelihoods of people everywhere. Now, more than ever, it is time to prioritise social value and sustainability, alongside business growth. So it is with a sense of determination and urgency to act that we have reinforced Bridgestone’s commitments to doing business sustainably.  We invite all our colleagues, partners and customers to join us in delivering on the E8 commitments – and helping shape a sustainable future for all”.

Sustainability at Bridgestone

While the company’s E8 Commitment is a new expression of Bridgestone’s continued mission, the company has in fact already made great efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and strive for a better environmental impact. An example of one of the many changes Bridgestone has made in this direction is that 100% of electricity used within Bridgestone’s European sites comes from renewable sources. As well as this, the company has also already reduced its global emissions by 31% since 2011. Bridgestone is also constantly innovating and producing newer and more sustainable technologies, such as their ENLITEN technology.

Moreover, Bridgestone has been actively pushing for more sustainability across the supply chain within the industry. In 2021, 50% of the top 10 global EV manufacturers chose Bridgestone tyre fitments while 50% of the top 10 most sold Vs in Europe were fitted with Bridgestone tyres. This goes to show that Bridgestone are pushing for the electrification of mobility and are putting investing and innovating in as many ways as possible to ensure this continues.
